Museum of Victims of Political Repression in Shymkent
Museum of Victims of Political Repression in Shymkent is one of the first museums in the country dedicated to the memory of victims of political repressions in 1937-1938.In the past century, Kazakhstan had to go through many tragic events, and these events are reflected in the museum exhibits.The main objective of this museum – to honor the memory of those killed in the years of people who have been victims of political regime, and natural disasters.
The era of totalitarianism which claimed millions of innocent lives will forever remain an unhealed wound in the memory of people. One of the tasks of the museum is to form an active civic position that such a tragedy can’t be repeated.
The museum consist of 3 halls:

The Exhibition consist of 12 parts:

In the center of the museum you can see the installed sculpture «repression» which displayed pain and suffering of the Kazakh people. The museum exhibition consists of lightboxes with portraits of public figures of the Republic of Kazakhstan, experienced the brunt of repression. In the hall of «Worship» set the plate on which immortalized the names of 2,500 people who were shot in the thirties. Also often Museum of Victims of Political Repression becomes a center for various events.
Initially, the museum fund was opened with about 2,500 exhibits, but today the museum fund has accumulated 16,535 exhibits. In order to replenish the museum fund, it contacts and works with district, city, regional archives, museums. In addition, the museum has close ties with the descendants of victims of political repression. The museum together with scientists, historians, Alash scientists of higher educational institutions conducts scientific work and holds many events with the participation of students of these universities. In order to celebrate the anniversaries of Alash figures and victims of political repression, events, lectures, exhibitions, round tables are regularly held. Events are held at the national, regional, and city levels, and closely cooperate with the media in order to promote them.

Modernization works
From July 12 to December 12, 2022, museification (full modernization) work was carried out in order to modernize the museum in accordance with modern standards. These works were carried out by AKF KZ LLP.

The tours are conducted in three languages.
